Oral Joint Supplements:
There are a number of different supplements that may help support joint health. We currently recommend Movoflex,Flexadin Advanced, Antinol, YuMove, Canna Companion and Ellevet. There are many other supplements that may also be recommended by your veterinarian.
The supplements we recommend have some research to support their use in dogs and they meet a high standard of quality control. They each contain a different ingredients that act in different mechanisms to support joint health and manage symptoms of arthritis. Some dogs take several supplements, while others start with one. Flexadin Advanced should not be given at the same time (about 4 hours apart) as other supplements as the ingredients compete for absorption.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids:
Omega 3 fatty acids are a great anti-inflammatory product that can help reduce symptoms and progression of arthritis and inflammation naturally.

The recommended dose for pain/arthritis/inflammation is 100 mg/kg (~50 mg/pound) (total EPA and DHA).
– Recommend dose for {AnimalName}:

We recommend Nordic Naturals and Just Food For Dogs brands. You can use either the veterinary or human brand of Nordic Naturals, but be sure to get the product WITHOUT added Vitamin D. Liquid formulations should be kept in the refrigerator after opening.

It is very important to gradually add Omega 3 supplements to the food. It should take 1-2 weeks to reach the full dose. Giving too much too soon will lead to diarrhea and possibly vomiting.

Probiotics are recommended to help ensure optimal gut health. There is emerging evidence that there is a link between gastrointestinal health and arthritis symptoms. Probiotics may also help reduce diarrhea and flatulence that can occur with Omega 3 supplementation. The products that we recommend are Just Food For Dogs, Rx Biotic and FortiFlora.
